In this article, we'll go over how to generate a List Definition in ACR in both Windows and Mainframe.
ACR/Workbench (Windows)
1. In the top menu, select "Run". From there, select "Database Utilities".
2. Once selected, a window will pop up with a variety of options. Select "List Definitions".
3. In the window that pops up, you can select what you want to list definitions for. We recommend "Jobs and associated Files", but you can also select "all" to default to listing all definition types from all jobs. If you select all, proceed to Step 5.
4. If "Jobs and associated Files" is selected, boxes will pop up in the window for the Job ID range you want to list definitions for.
- If you want every job's definitions, you leave both boxes blank.
- If you want only a single job's definitions, enter in a Job ID for the "From" box and leave the "Through" box empty.
- If you want to list definitions for all jobs up until a certain job, enter in a Job ID for the "Through" box and leave the "From" box empty.
5. If you see "Return Code 0000" in the bottom-left corner once you hit "OK", you have successfully generated List Definitions in ACR/Workbench. Two reports will now have been created in your install folder for ACR/Workbench:
- UNIDLR
- UNITR
The UNIDLR is the List Definition Report.
MVS
1.In the top menu, go to "Setup" and select option number 4 "Database utilities".
2. In the window that pops up, select option 1 "Database report utilities".
3. Select option 1 "List definitions".
4. In the window that pops up, you can just press F5 to continue. This window is just specifying the JCL you'll be running; it is automatically selected for you.
5. Here, ACR/Detail & ACR/Summary differ in the numbered option you select. Like in Workbench, you can have multiple options to choose from. We recommend "Job and associated Files", but you can also select "All definitions" to list all definition types of all jobs. If you select all, please proceed to Step 7.
ACR/Detail
ACR/Summary
6. If "Jobs and associated Files" is selected, a window will pop up where you have to specify the Job IDs you want to list definitions through. You can specify partial Job ID names, so if you enter in A in the "Start with:" field and B in the "End at:" field, it will list definitions for all jobs from A to B.
- If you want every job's definitions, leave all fields blank.
- If you want one job's definitions, enter it in the "Start with:" field and leave the "End at:" field blank.
- If you specify a Job ID in the "End at:" field and leave the "Start with:" field blank, it will list definitions for all jobs up until the Job ID.
7. The JCL to run the job will appear in the window. Submit that JCL. If you get a "MAXCC=0000" then you have successfully generated a List Definition in z/OS. Two reports will now have been created if you check the job that ran with S.H:
- UNIDLR
- UNITR
The UNIDLR is the List Definition Report.
