1. Create Layout(s)
a. Layouts are a “map” representation of your data – these tell Assure where the data is located on the source and it tells Assure what kind of layout it is: EDI, XML, Database or Excel Spreadsheet.
b. Layouts are used in the Capture process at the Control Point level.
2. Create Control Entity – This identifies the overall process for which you need to establish controls. This is the overall “umbrella” that will hold the Control Point(s)
a. Name the overall process
b. Identify cycle processing.
c. Create the Control Fields – which are like containers that will hold the extracted data and are used in the validation rules.
i. For Detail control, you must have at least one identity control field.
ii. For Summary control, you do not have any identity control fields.
3. Create Result Templates-These hold the message that’s returned if validation fails, completes or passes
a. Result templates are made up of a group(s) with fields that will hold the extracted data and a Subject line much like the subject line of an email message.
b. NOTE: The field names should reflect the same name used in the Control Fields at the Control Entity level.
c. These are used at the Control Point level in the Validate / Results section.
4. Create Control Point – The Control Point is where you do all the data extraction and set up your validation rules.
a. Extract the data using layouts created in Step 1 (Capture tab)
b. Assign data into Control Fields created at the Control Entity level in Step 2.
c. Once all extraction rules are completed, test the source.
d. Set up Results (Results tab).
i. Create a Result, give it a name.
ii. Assign a return code to the Result.
iii. Link the Result Template created in Step 3 to the Result.
iv. NOTE: Result Template must already exist by this point.
e. Set up the Validation Rule (Validate tab)
i. Create your validation rule.
ii. Add the Result created in Step 4.c to the rule.
iii. Test the control.
iv. Review the results.
