In this article, we'll be going over how to set up technical lineage in Govern's V1 Lineage.
NOTE: You cannot build technical lineage without first building business lineage. Please read this article on building business lineage if you haven't already and then come back here. Building Business Lineage in V1
1) Choose your Source/FROM term and your Target/TO term. In this example, we're going to have our Source/FROM be Markit/144A Disclaimer Indicator and our Target/TO be Enterprise Shared Data Layer/144A Disclaimer Flag.
NOTE: If you already have the "mapping for" relationship with the Fusion Attribute you need configured for your terms, you can skip steps 2 & 3.
2) Go to Configuration -> Relationships. Click the "+" icon near the upper right-hand corner. In the window that pops up, select your Application Glossary as the Subject, Markit / Schema / Table / Table Column as the Object, and "mapping for / mapping for (Mapping)" as the Predicate. Select "Many" for both Cardinalities (NOTE: the cardinality can be different depending your business's needs). This is for our Markit item.
3) Go to Configuration -> Relationships. Click the "+" icon near the upper right-hand corner. In the window that pops up, select your Application Glossary as the Subject, SQL Server / Schema / Table / Column as the Predicate, and "mapping for / mapping for (Mapping)" as the Predicate. Select "Many" for both Cardinalities (NOTE: the cardinality can be different depending your business's needs). This is for our Enterprise Shared Data Layer item.
4) Go to Business Assets -> Application Field Glossary, and select one of the terms you're using. From there, click on the "Related Assets" tab. For this example, we're starting with our Enterprise Shared Data Layer item.
5) Click on the "SQL.SERVER.SCHEMA.TABLE.COLUMN [MAPPING FOR]" relationship, click the "+" icon near the upper right-hand corner, and select the Fusion Attribute that matches the term. Click the Save button.
6) Repeat steps 4 & 5 for the other term you're relating.
7) Click on the "Lineage" tab from the page you're on from Step 6.
8) Click the Pencil icon near the upper right-hand corner and select "Edit Technical Lineage".
9) In the window that pops up, click the "+" icon. In that window, enter in the Source/FROM Fusion Attribute (the same one you related to the Source/FROM field item). Then do the same for the Target/FROM Fusion Attribute. Finally, in the next box click and select the Business Lineage relationship that corresponds to this technical lineage (this is why you need to set up Business Lineage first).
10) Click the floppy disk icon, then in the preview window of your Technical Lineage hit the Save button.
11) Hover your cursor over the Eye icon, and select "Technical Lineage".
12) Your technical lineage should now appear.
You have now successfully created Technical Lineage.
