In this article, we'll be going over how to set up business lineage in Govern's V1 Lineage.
In order for lineage to be set up, you first need to have an Application Glossary and Application Field Glossary. The Application Field Glossary should be a child of Application Glossary. Your business will likely already have this set up and have fields under each to use.
Once that is done, follow the steps below.
1) Choose your Source/FROM term and your Target/TO term. In this example, we're going to choose the "144A Disclaimer Indicator" from Markit as our Source/FROM, and "144A Disclaimer Flag" from Enterprise Shared Data Layer as our Target/TO.
NOTE: If there already is a "Simple" type relationship (such as "type of" or "contains" between the Application Glossary and Application Field Glossary, then you can skip Step 2 and go immediately to Step 3.
2) Go to "Configuration -> Relationships". Once there, click the "+" icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Select "Application Glossary" as the Subject, and "Application Field Glossary" as the Object. Select "contains / is contained by (Simple)" as the Predicate. The Subject's Cardinality should be "One" and the Object's Cardinality should be "Many".
3) Go to Business Assets -> Application Field Glossary, and select one of the terms you're using. From there, click on the "Related Assets" tab.
4) Click on the "APPLICATION GLOSSARY [IS CONTAINED BY]" relationship, click the "+" icon near the upper right-hand corner, and select the field that matches the "Owner/Parent" of the item. Click the Save button.
5) Repeat steps 3 & 4 for the other term you're relating.
6) Click on the "Lineage" tab from the page you're on in Step 5.
7) In the window that pops up, hit the pencil icon near the upper right-hand corner, and select "Edit Business Lineage".
8) Enter in the Relationship Type, Subject, and Object of the Source/FROM term and the Relationship Type, Subject, and Object of the Target/TO term. In this example, here's what would be entered:
FROM
Relationship Type: Application Glossary contains Application Field Glossary
Subject: Markit
Object: Markit/144A Disclaimer Indicator
TO
Relationship Type: Application Glossary contains Application Field Glossary
Subject: Enterprise Shared Data Layer
Object: Enterprise Shared Data Layer/144A Disclaimer Flag
9) Hit the small floppy disk icon next to the "+" icon; you'll be taken to a window previewing your new lineage. Hit the Save button, then the "x" icon to go back to your Business Lineage view. Here is what it should look like:
You have successfully created Business Lineage.
