This article details the most common reasons why Assure control email notifications may not be delivered
Please note, log review is essential when troubleshooting email delivery problems. Though this is not a substitution for careful review of the logs, the following are the most common reasons the team may experience email notification problems :
Scheduler is turned off
Result actions are responsible for sending the notifications once a control point completes. This task is tied to the "Run Result Action Rules" scheduled task within the "Scheduler" settings. Within the "Scheduler" screen, the right-side of the window displays a toggle between enabling and disabling the scheduler.
Email alerts are not enabled from the user preference
Navigating to the "Preferences" screen, there is an "Email Alerts" option which may be enabled or disabled. To ensure the emails are being sent to your user ID, ensure that this box is checked to enable the feature. Please note, though this is a setting on a user-by-user basis, the "default" setting for this field is set within the appserver.properties. Note in the screenshot the field "SEND_EMAIL_ON_ALERT=true". Setting to "false" will disabling email alerts, by default, if desired :

Issue with communication with SMTP server
There are many reasons this may happen, though the most common are incorrect values placed within the appserver.properties ( see screenshot above from "point #2" ), or firewall / network issues in communicating to the SMTP server from where the JVM / appserver resides ( including certificates if SSL is enabled ). This is easy to troubleshoot via the logs, though a quick test may be performed to ensure that email delivery is possible via the admin console.
From this Assure page, you will be able to access a "Test Email" screen :
Please note, the settings on the top half of the screen reflect the aforementioned appserver.properties ( defined within the installation configuration directory ). Once satisfied with the defined fields, you may "send" a test email via the bottom right corner button. This test is not tied to any control point / result action making for a convenient test to verify that the product is indeed communicating with the SMTP server and reacting by delivering the desired email.
Should any problems surface ( unable to receive, error prompt, etc.. ), review of the ERROR message returned via the Infogix logs is recommended.
LDAP ID or embedded ID is not tied to an email address
This may be verified through your user settings if embedded security is enabled.
If LDAP is being utilized for logging into the Assure application, please pair with your LDAP team to verify if an email address is tied to the ID logged into the application with ( via a user attribute ).
