During the upgrade process, it is usual to see messages indicating that files are being backed up, such as:
Uninstalling previous version
Backing up site location to /xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/site_configuration/site-7731-backup-xxx-xxx.temp.xxx
Backing up data location to /xxx/xxx/xxx/xxx/data_directory/data-7731-backup-xxx-xxx
temp.xxx
The installer backs up the current state of the system prior to removing the existing installed software and deploying the new version of the software. These backup files represent this state info. Once the upgrade has been completed and validated to your satisfaction they are no longer required.
The files in the data-7731 backup directory are copies of the data-7731 directory and comprises:
- The Analyze database
- Cache and indexes for the webapp and storage layer
- Java security store
If you have chosen to backup the execution (run) data as part of the upgrade, the system will copy the executions directory containing the intermediate / temporary data generated when data flows run. Depending on your temp data retention policy this could be a significant volume of data (TBs)
The files in the site-7731 backup directory are copies of the site-7731 directory and comprises:
- System configuration and license info
- User-installed installed python packages and Java libraries
- System logs
- Data files that have been uploaded to a user's data directory and results files saved in their data directory
